Creativity, the Killer App- Terri -Monday 12:45 Creativity.JPG
Creativity - different definitions, should be fun and expressive - Star Wars Snowflakes #value - personal growth, figuring out my interests and choices (example journals) - creating a new thing, or new to ME --creativity is not just for artists -part of it is timing, too- right time to learn it, try it, tweak it - when cultural trends need to cycle back --creativity doesn't happen solo --creativity is NOT innate, all people have it --look in the mirror, all the brain research says so ex: Austin and the butterfly - good at listening to feedback with critical friends....go through revision procession, feedback, social collaboration BIG difference at the end- students get it!
PLAYFULNESS cultivates Creativity - fold airplane, put dreams on it -playful moment....fly it at two targets - playful state of mind, helps us think about what a project could be Playfulness allows us to create things: Seth Godin Stop Stealing Dreams - free e-book, What are you doing to fuel my kids' dreams? CONDITIONS FOR CREATIVITY: #condiitionsPlayfulness, time, exploration, failure, variety real, challenging problems, freedom/ autonomy/choice, clear understanding of constraints and resources: time, money, tools, team, MOVEMENT, encouragement and recogntion, knowledge/skills/expertise/mastery
NEED to connect kinestethic with thinking
Ex: circles: all kids get bubble sheet, decorate any bubble any way you want. dont get hung up what they ARE, kids stop themselves for fear of what others might think about--don't "stop" ourselves, volume--need a volume of practice and solutions before we decide--quantitiy
Teresa Amabile, PhD, Harvard Business, creativity requires an incubation period; peple need tine to soak in a problem and let the ideas bubble up
Failure - the "F" is the new "A" - support them through the process, you don't learn until you fail failure creates resiliency
FAILURE is an option
Happiness IS SUPER important
